Concert Review: Destroy Boys

On December 15, 2017, Destroy Boys played a birthday show for Vi at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in Oakland, California. Burd and Dog Party opened for them.

Price $$$

Tickets were not sold online for this show, so we paid at the door. It was only $5 to get in, which is very cost effective if you want to go to a great show, but you are on a tighter budget.

Venue 8/10

Since this venue doubles as a record store, it is pretty small. The back room where bands play probably holds between 50-100 people. Small rooms have the potential to get overheated during shows, but this one had pretty good air circulation and it did not feel too stuffy at all. The room also did not feel packed and people weren’t crammed together in a small space.

Crowd 5/10

Since this was a small birthday show, the crowd was really chill. Though this might annoy some people who really enjoy dancing, moshing, yelling, and high energy crowds, it was nice to take a break from that vibe since it is the norm at most punk shows. Occasionally a small pit would start, but it would usually die down after a couple verses. There were also balloons going around the crowd, which looked cool but it was hard to control where they were going.

Lineup 7/10

Every band in this lineup gave a great performance despite the lower energy from the crowd, which usually makes it harder for performers to put on a good show. Additionally, the band members that we talked to were extremely nice and friendly.

All in all, this show was really fun. It was our first time at 1-2-3-4 Go and we got to meet up with some good friends (shout out to the DESTROYERS). It was one of the smallest we have been to and it is good to experience different crowd and venue sizes when you go to a lot of shows. Destroy Boys are always awesome and we really look forward to seeing them again. If you haven’t listened to any of these bands, please check them out!! Their Spotifys are linked below so you can show them some love.

See you at the next show!
