Concert Review: Cardboard Houses at The Colony

On Saturday, January 20, 2018, there was a show at The Colony in Sacramento featuring Cardboard Houses, Nezumi Onna, Mustn’ts, and Marigold.

Price: $$$

At this show there was a sliding scale from $5-10 so it was extremely cheap and totally worth it to see all these amazing bands!

Venue: 6/10

The Colony is a small and simple venue with new school style art covering the walls. There’s a decent sized floor space for dancing or moshing, and since it was a pretty small show, it did not feel crowded. However, it is confusing since there are three venues right next to each other (The Colony, Cafe Colonial, and Colonial Theater) so it was a little confusing as to which venue had which show playing.

Crowd: 8/10

Everyone there was really nice. There was a little bit of moshing but nothing to excessive. Instead, everyone just danced with each other. The people are what made this show really great. Everybody was having a fun time listening to some awesome music.

Lineup: 7/10

All of these bands played great sets. All the band members were friendly and engaging with their crowd and even though it was a small space, everybody there was made to feel comfortable. There was also a good variety within the music, with a mix of upbeat songs and slower, more chill ones towards the end.

This show was so much fun. Not only were all the bands great, everybody we talked to was super cool. Sacramento was also a relatively new place for us to go, since most of the shows we attend are in the Bay Area of California. If you’re in the Sac area, this is a great place to see some live music.

See you at the next show!
