Hey guys! After a tough last semester of high school we are back and better than ever as Fog To Smog! Since Emma will be in San Francisco (famous for its fog) and Brigid will be in Los Angeles (infamous for its smog) this fall for college, we will be continuing to report on all things music in both cities. To start off July and relaunch, we have a new segment called Music of the Month. Here are our favorite new releases from June!
June Releases
→ Bay Dream – Culture Abuse
Culture Abuse’s second album, Bay Dream, was released on June 15, 2018. Compared to their debut LP, Peach, Bay Dream is a more mature album. In the transition, it feels as though Culture Abuse has outgrown some of their typical loud, fuzzy guitar riffs and have traded it in for a more clear sounding rock style with more variety.

→ American River – Destroy Boys
Destroy Boys released this single on June 1, 2018. Everything about this song is amazing, save for the fact that it dropped on our last day of high school, so we never got the chance to listen to it while angstily walking to our next class. After listening to it live for many shows prior its release, the recorded version does not disappoint. It is a perfect song for getting angry at high school, the establishment, or that guy that just flat tired you in the hallway.

→ EVERYTHING IS LOVE – The Carters
We never thought that an album by Jay-Z and Beyonce could be considered underrated. The Carters released EVERYTHING IS LOVE June 16, 2018. Even though it debuted at number 1, we haven’t seen much buzz about it (save for the day that it dropped). This album gained major attention over the filming location for the lead single, APESHIT, being none other than the Louvre. EVERYTHING IS LOVE is full of many styles, from the high energy of APESHIT to the smooth ballad of SUMMER. Who knew that two DIY punk fans could be such big fans of an album by two of the biggest figures in the music industry.

→ Me and We and I – The Frights
“Me and We and I” is the second single from The Frights’ upcoming album, Hypochondriac. It was released on June 19, 2018. This single and the previous one (“CRUTCH”) show a departure from the previous “surf-doo-wop” sound of their earlier music to a more polished, pop punk sound. We are eagerly awaiting Hypochondriac, set to be released August 24, 2018.

→ bleach 7″ – The Aquadolls
Released on June 20, 2018, this EP is the newest music from The Aquadolls since their single “Girl Riot” form 2016. The first track, “bleach” is the song that we all need while lighting our ex’s shirt on fire and realizing we’re better off without them anyway. The second track, “runaway (the jam)” is reminiscent of classic rock while still keeping the beach-rock vibes of their previous album.

→ Summer Camp – Redwood Groovy
Redwood Groovy’s debut EP was released on June 13, 2018. This EP exudes chill summer vibes, perfect for your next road trip or a day at the beach. Our favorite track is “Freckle” because of the more upbeat, more rock instrumentation.
